RESEARCH EXPERIENCE


Academic research:

Completed two semesters of independent research as an undergraduate at Cornell University in graphics and artificial intelligence.

Completed one semester of independent research in artificial intelligence as a master's student at Cornell University.

Extracurricular research projects:

Developed a distributed file-sharing system featuring fast, exhaustive searches and modest network bandwidth requirements. Implemented all components in Java.

Currently working on a distributed system for evolution of simple neural network agents in a simulated physical environment. Implementing all components in C++, with an emphasis on minimal platform dependence.

Teaching:

Cornell University, Fall 2001 (present), Teaching Assistant
Assisting Professor Rajit Manohar with CS314, Computer Organization and Design. Responsibilities include teaching a weekly section, holding office hours, and grading assignments.

Cornell University, Fall 2000, Teaching Assistant
Assisted Professor Claire Cardie with CS472, Introduction to Artificial Intelligence. Responsibilities included holding office hours, grading assignments, and developing a programming assignment framework for the class.

Cornell University, Fall 1999, Teaching Assistant
Assisted Professor Lillian Lee with CS481, an honors computer science theory course. Responsibilities included holding office hours, grading assignments, and teaching review sessions.


Summer Employment:

Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Summer 2000, Programmer
Developed user interface components for the Raven sound analysis framework, an NSF funded project. Implemented all components using Swing and Java.

Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Summer 1999, Programmer
Worked as part of a team of software engineers on a large-scale, real-time audio processing software package. Designed a graphical user interface for part of the package using Java, and implemented a Java-to-native interface which allowed the Java GUI to control native code. Implemented blocks of audio processing software using native C++.

Matco Tool, Summer 1998, Computer Systems Trainer
Responsibilities included training users on a custom developed order management software package, developing and publishing a user manual for the software, and providing user support.

Rohrer Corporation, 1995-1997, System Administration Assistant
Responsibilities included assembling new computer hardware, providing technical assistance to system users, testing and assessing hardware and software solutions, and programming applications and scripts for Windows 95 and 3.11. I also assisted in administering Windows NT servers, including user database maintenance and wide area network assessment, setup, and maintenance.

Rohrer Corporation, 1994, Pre-Press Department
Responsibilities included making match print proofs of negatives for customer approval and using a CAD system to design die-cut samples for printing jobs.


Other Experience:

Rohrer Corporation, Winter Break, 1998-99, Website Designer
Implemented the corporate website from the ground up, including layout, tables, graphic design, and user interface. Set up and configured an Apache web server running on a Linux PC. Also wrote a Java applet for remote website administration.

Co-founded the independent record label. Guided promotion and marketing. Designed the APN records website from the ground up, including all creative direction, content decisions, graphic design, and layout. Set up online ordering on the website.
